This week I moved on to a new phobia! Aquaphobia (the fear of water.) I had an idea of what I wanted the illustration to look like, but wasn't sure how to translate that into a character. So I started working on iterations straight away.

I wanted this character to look like she had been underwater for a while, so I included some moss to try and show that. These were very quick sketches, I wanted to some face/hair iterations aswell just to get an idea of what she'd look like. After I had done these I moved on to the actual concept.

I didn't want to spend too long on the concept, and I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. I decided to move on from this and start work on the final illustration.

This is the first rough sketch of the illustration, I knew I wanted her to be falling in the water. I gathered some ref of water for this illustration since it's something I'm new at painting.

I continued working on the illustration throughout the week, working a lot on the water to try and make it as accurate as possible.

I decided for my book to have the illustrations portrait A4 size instead of square, so I edited it a little bit to fit that.

I'm fairly pleased with how this turned out, the water especially since I hadn't really painted water before. I'm glad I got this one done a little quicker than the others, I feel a little less behind now! New phobia next week.
